SCHEDULE CHANGE--PLEASE READ

Hey everyone. We've run into a bit of a scheduling snag. It was brought to my department head's attention that I wasn't in my classroom for many of our sessions this semester. It turns out that the school has a requirement that you be in face-to-face instruction for a minimum number of hours in order to get credit for the class. It looked really bad because this late in the semester, the first idea that came up was to give everyone a W and then just let you take the class again later. Luckily, I was able to talk them into this: for the rest of the semester, we can make up the hours by meeting on Friday and Saturday afternoons. There are only 4 weeks left, but this way you will still get credit for the class. Would 1 - 3 work for everyone? If not, you need to let me know when you can meet, preferably today, April Fools day.
:-)

The above announcement was, of course, an April Fools Joke. Thanks to those of you who said that I got you. I hope it gave you a smile rather a heart attack. :-)

Lindsay, Brian, and I attented the Geology meeting for our group. They seemed to like our ideas and offered to help in providing pictures or information if needed. We left them with contact information, so that they can let us know of any good ideas they come across. I think that our group is now going to mostly focus on getting the final posters produced. We will try to keep in contact with the department as we work through this process, so we are sure that our final result reflects what they want to see.

Social Security Presentation:

The presentation last night went pretty well, and they were extremely supportive, offering to provide us with lots of pics and information. Although I hope they give us some feedback about which ideas of the presentation they liked so we can see where to focus. Otherwise it went very well.

Attending the geology club meeting last night gave me a better look at what the geology department wants and needs. The geology department would greatly benefit from outsourcing other departments. It's not that the geology department lacks the creativity and the attraction to recruit new majors, they simply need a new outlook from a different perspective so that they can draw new undergraduates to their program. I think this technical writing class could provide that new perspective, but I also noticed that the club could benefit from the help of the computer science, advertising, and graphic communications departments to get new and fresh ideas. I think as a collaborative effort, the geology department could be revived and could become more attractive to high school students.

About the website: I still haven't received the tag line and pages from most people. It's no big deal, I just wanted to make sure everyone had my e-mail so my group could get started on integrating the entire thing as soon as possible. Just to remind everyone what I need:

1. a tagline
2. the name of your index page
3. It'd be best if I could get your page in entirety so I can make sure we don't have any duplicate file names

I presented for our group last night at the Geology Club meeting. There were about 10 people there, including 3 professors. I presented our brochure and putting it on the webpage, and they seemed to like the idea. They had no comments or changes for it. They did offer various pictures they had if we wanted to us them. This morning, I got this email from one of the members:

Brannon, Lindsay, Amy, and Adam -

I'm a graduate student in the geology department and I came to the Geology Club meeting yesterday to see your presentations. First of all, thanks for doing this. <>

There was a lot of discussion about pictures yesterday. I have hundreds, and I know that some of the other students have quite a few also. Most of mine are digital although I have a few that are not. I am also willing to help out on the technical aspects of your presentations. I'd really like to see some quality projects come out of your class <>
I'd love to get together with any group and help you out. We have a decent conference room in Brackett that we could meet in. And to Adam's group - thank you for mentioning how horrible the engineering presentation is!! That was definitely the right audience. Maybe now someone will fix it.

Once again, thank you all for taking on this project.

This poem should be entitled "One Week Late." Well, anyway, here it is.

My Double Life

Late nights and wild parties.
Early mornings and tired meetings.

Golfing and swimming on Saturdays.
Irritating traffic and bad coffee on Mondays.

Girls in bikinis.
Girls in business casual.

Graduation parties for younger siblings.
Fund-raising luncheons in the city.

Sleep on top of the sheets.
Sleep with my head on the desk.

Hawaiian luaus, plastic pools, and expensive keg beer.
Phone calls, faxes, and mountain spring water.

Guitars and singing.
Radio ads and annoying disc jockeys.

Read a book in the sun.
The NY Times on the internet.

A week at the beach.
Ten in the city.

Three Rivers Regatta.
Three copies, please.

Biking in the Heights.
Parking on the interstate.

Wings with the boys.
Sandwiches with the boss.

Road trips to the Appalachians.
Walking treks to the bank.

A summer to remember
A summer to forget.
